Sharc vs. Coral Avalon

Pressure Point 69
July 28, 2003
Writer: Mike Renner

It came without warning.

Sharc simply walked out from behind the curtains, and the fans reacted positively to the former PIW Television and Hardcore champion as he walked down to the ring with Bait trailing behind him. Over Sharc's shoulder was, of course, his handy barbed wire two-by-four. Sharc and Bait soon entered the ring, and Sharc climbed up the turnbuckles, raising his arms and the two-by-four for all to see. He did this for the other three turnbuckles, getting louder and louder ovations as he went.

Nobody really knew why Sharc was out here, or why he didn't come out with his new music, but at least one of those questions would be answered.

"Won't Back Down" by Fuel.

If you thought the crowd reacted favorably for Sharc, you should hear the reaction that the reigning Action! Wrestling Bantam Champion got here. Coral Avalon walked out of the curtains, and the fans went crazy-go-nuts for him and his girlfriend slash manager, Allison Lindum. Coral wore his championship around his waist, as well as his traditional black and blue wrestling gear. Allison was all about color coordination tonight, wearing a blue top and black skirt. Which was certainly and thankfully not "superkick the beejeezsus out of people" gear.

Coral led Allison up the steps and then leapt up to the apron and helped her inside. He then proceeded to climb up to the second rope of the nearby turnbuckle, rip his championship belt off from around his waist, and hold it up for all to see. The fans cheered the reigning Bantam champion again, as he was a champion determined to prove that he was worthy of holding the championship.

No matter how hardcore his opponent was.

Coral hopped over the top rope, still holding his belt. The young Kleptomaniac handed his title off to referee Ben Parker, who proceeded to take it over to the timekeeper, who took the belt, and rang the bell.

Ding. Ding. Ding.

Allison quietly excused herself from the ring, and left Coral to prepare himself to facing Sharc.

It was unknown what Sharc was after here tonight. It is noticable that the last two times Sharc had appeared on Action! television, he had been less than professional to his opponents. Two weeks ago, he gave "Impulse" Brian James the finger and walked out. Last week, he was uncooperative to Daniel Phillips and even put the guy through a table.

However, he was in the ring with Coral Avalon. Coral, a man who had done all he could to fairly hold on to his championship title, really had no problems with Sharc whatsoever. However, he was the champion, and he wished to be a fighting champion. Not to mention that Coral was rather adaptive to the different styles presented in Action! Wrestling.

However, nothing really prepared Coral, except for maybe last week's contest against HardCase, for Sharc simply rearing back and running over the young Kleptomaniac with a simple clothesline.

Avalon scrambled to his feet, somewhat surprised at the lack of a lockup. Sharc charged in again, but this time, Coral evaded contact by ducking the clothesline. When Sharc turned around, he tried to charge in again, but Coral caught Sharc with a drop toe hold, bringing him down to the canvas. The fans roared in approval, as Avalon quickly leapt on top of Sharc and applied a side headlock. Sharc, being the larger and stronger of the two, quickly managed to get to his feet, and attempted to hit a belly-to-back suplex on Coral. However, Coral went with the momentum and landed on his feet behind Sharc, before grabbing Sharc by the waist and charging him chest-first into the ropes, going for a rolling cradle.

However, Sharc held on to the top ropes and when Coral shifted his momentum, only he rolled along the canvas. He had immediately gotten to his feet, but Sharc met him with...

CRUNCH!

...the GRANDDADDY of all clotheslines, turning Coral Avalon inside out with a 360 somersault selling of the maneuver.

Sharc simply grunted, before a sick smirk formed on his face. You know, that "I'm going to put you through a barbed wire flaming table and you're going to like it" smirk that he sometimes had. He pulled Coral to his feet... and performed a fireman's carry into an armbar.

...I'm sorry, what?

Avalon certainly was surprised, as was the fans. Sharc had been rather expressive of being hardcore up until now... so what was changing? Could it be that he wanted to prove his wrestling accumen and show that he wasn't just a hardcore wrestler?

Who knew, but Avalon slowly came around and got to a vertical base. Sharc still held Coral's arm in the armbar, and was facing the young Kleptomaniac. Coral thought about his options, and elected to simply duck down and catch Sharc with a fireman's carry takeover of his own. The young Kleptomaniac quickly caught the charging Sharc with an armdrag, and a second one was segued into another armbar.

Sharc cursed in frustration.

Just when he thought he had Coral Avalon down, he had suddenly sprung up and returned the move in kind. And Sharc didn't like that too much. Soon, Sharc got up, and turned the armbar into a hammerlock. However, Coral reversed this soon thereafter by suddenly reaching down and sharply pulling on Sharc's left leg, bringing him down to the canvas. Sharc used his other foot to push Coral into the ropes, and quickly rolled over to force Coral to jump over him. Sharc quickly rose to his feet again, and attempted a back body drop. However, Coral simply pivoted around and allowed Sharc to do so, because he used it to land quickly on his feet, once again behind Sharc. When Sharc turned around, Coral went for a flying headscissors. However, Sharc had about enough of this.

TILT-A-WHIRL BACKBREAKER~!

The fans gasped in shock, but cheered for Sharc for his counter of Coral's attempted continuation of his offense. Sharc grumbled and stomped on Coral a bit, before he pulled the young Kleptomaniac to his feet and picked him up in a side slam position, before he dropped him back-first across the knee with a pendulum backbreaker. However, this was a vicious backbreaker, one where Sharc put every last ounce of force he could muster into providing impact. Avalon was hurting, and Sharc was just a little happier.

Sharc pulled Coral Avalon to his feet and positioned his shoulder at Coral's waist, before lifting him off of his feet. This was because Sharc was going to use his power advantage and Coral's lighter weight to charge him directly into a corner and slam Coral back-first into it. Sharc grasped the second ropes with his hands, and repeatedly drove his shoulder into Coral's ribcage and stomach, until referee Ben Parker had to forcibly remove the former PIW star from the corner, allowing Coral to collapse on the canvas. Allison had rushed toward his side, and tried to encourage him to get back into the thick of things.

Sharc didn't let her get that many words to Coral, because he pulled Coral back to his feet and pulled him to the center of the ring. A quick Russian legsweep hit with enough impact for Sharc to simply bounce on top of Coral Avalon and make a lateral press.

One.

Two.

KICKOUT.

Sure, it might've hurt his back a bit, but Coral still managed to get up from his predicament. Sharc wasn't happy, and decided to do the best thing he could've possibly done to swing things manjorly in his favor.

He picked up Coral by the hair and chucked him out to the floor.

Coral tried to collect himself on the floor, but Sharc was now in his own enviroment, the outside of the ring, where the only rules were to either A) survive or B) get the fuck back into the ring before the ten count. However, Ben Parker actually went outside the ring, completely ignoring the B-side of things. Sharc pulled Coral to his feet, while both Bait and Allison Lindum maintained a safe, comfortable, and violence-free distance from the two men.

Sharc simply lifted up Coral in the spinebuster position and charged him straight into the ring post. A sharp gasp of air came from Coral, as Sharc released him and let him fall to the thinly-padded arena floor. Sharc smiled and raised his hands toward the crowd, sending quite a lot of the crowd into cheers. He pulled Coral to his feet and lifted him up in the scoop slam position, but only so he could drop Coral face-first across the guardrail. Sharc then climbed up to the apron, his arms obviously raised for a double axe-handle.

He leapt.

He missed.

SMASH!

And smashed his face across the guardrail in the process.

The fans erupted, as Coral Avalon staggered away from the scene of Sharc's miss. He rested against the stairs, trying to catch his breath. However, Sharc had quickly recovered from the miss, and decided to charge in on Coral at the stairs. But just as he reached him, Coral reacted quickly and ducked down, grabbed Sharc by his waist, and used Sharc's own momentum to carry him...

CRUNCH!

...into the steel staircase.

Flapjack into the steel stairs.

Coral tried to gather himself, he had put quite a bit into the flapjack, enough to stun him more than Sharc's miss earlier in the bout. Deciding that it might be better to take the fight into his own turf, Coral grabbed Sharc by the head and the back of his tights and tossed him back into the ring. Coral leapt up onto the apron and climbed to the top rope, and waited for Sharc to get up. When he did, Coral leapt off with a missile dropkick, which connected right in the chest of Sharc and knocked him down.

The fans cheered, and watched as Coral made the cover.

One.

TWO.

THR-KICKOUT!

The fans gasped in shock as Sharc managed to kick out of Coral's cover. Neverthless, Coral pulled Sharc to his feet and whipped him into the corner. From there, Coral charged in with an elbow strike to Sharc's face, and followed up with a pair of European uppercuts. This time, however, Coral tried to whip Sharc into the opposite turnbuckles, but Sharc caught him with an elbow smash to counter. As Avalon stumbled backwards in surprise, he was met with another stiff clothesline from Sharc, sending him down to the canvas again.

Sharc rose to his feet, and admired the fact that the flapjack into the steps had opened him up a bit.

And you know what they say about sharks and their abilities to notice blood.

Sharc simply pulled Avalon to his feet, and chucked him over the top rope and to the outside. Yes, again. Deal with it.

Avalon had landed on his feet somewhat acrobatically, but momentum carried him forward on top of the announce table. Coral tried to recover, but Sharc was there and he quickly slammed Coral's skull into the announce table. A second time had caused Coral to stumble backwards. Then Sharc grabbed Coral by his shoulder-length hair, and instead of slamming his skull into the announce table again, he simply tossed him over the guardrail and into the crowd.

As security and referee Ben Parker scrambled to keep the tide of screaming Indianapolis fans from lynching Sharc and Coral Avalon with their fandom, Sharc took the opportunity to grab some guy's cup of beer/other substance, take a sip, and spew it in Avalon's face. Avalon went down, covering his eyes in pain. Sharc smiled his sick smile, tossed the beer/other substance over his shoulder(whereupon it landed on some little kid's head, but let's ignore that part).

Sharc pulled Avalon to his feet and landed a few punches to his face, one of which bled him hardway. He then pulled his head downward, and looked to be going for a piledriver or something. However, Coral pulled his head up, and ended up backdropping Sharc over the guardrail and back to the ringside area. Coral hesitated and balanced himself on the guardrail, before he leapt off at Sharc, intent on laying him out with possibly a double axehandle.

CRUNCH!

And was met with ANOTHER clothesline, which sent Coral violently slamming onto the concrete floor like a ping-pong ball. The fans gasped and started... the chant.

You know.

"Holy shit...

Holy shit...

HOLY SHIT!"

Sharc hesitated. He could have rolled the young Kleptomaniac back into the ring. He could have pinned him and probably won the match, due to the fact that Coral was simply a grease spot on the canvas at this present moment in time. However, we all knew Sharc better than that. We knew that Sharc wasn't going to be satisfied with just that. With that, Sharc slowly pulled the monitors off of the Spanish Announce Table and seethed at both Spanish announcers to high-tail it out of there.

From there, Sharc peeled Coral off of the mat-covered floor, while Ben Parker urged Sharc to enter the ring again, still ignoring the fact that he should be counting out both guys right now. Instead, Sharc simply deposited Coral up onto the top of the announce table. Allison Lindum approached the carnage, but Ben Parker saw this and tried to get her away from the action. This enabled Sharc to climb up to the top rope, intent on flying off with a big elbow drop to Coral Avalon that would definitely put him through the table and give him the Bantam championship for sure.

He leapt.

CRRRUUUUUNCH!

He missed.

Coral had managed to get out of the way of the elbow drop in the nick of time. Sharc laid in the wreckage of what was once the Action! Wrestling Spanish Announce Table, hurting in all manners of whatever. Coral recovered a bit, as the fans once again chanted "HOLY SHIT!" again. He pulled Sharc out of the wreckage and tossed him back into the ring. Coral slid under the bottom rope, and laid on top of Sharc, hoping for the pinfall. Bait, nearby, slammed her hands on the canvas, urging Sharc to kick out. Ben Parker, however, slid into the ring and quickly got to making the count.

ONE.

TWO.

THR--SHOULDER!

The fans went ballistic.

Sharc had kicked out of throwing himself through a table, and Coral Avalon slammed his fist onto the canvas in frustration. He had to finish Sharc, somehow, and someway. He pulled Sharc to his feet, and started to go for the leg lever takedown. However, as Coral reared back to execute the move, Sharc pulled his head out from under Coral's leg, and went for a desperation released German suplex.

Coral flipped out of it, and ended up very near the turnbuckles. Coral pushed himself up to the second turnbuckles, and flew off.

Second rope calf kick!

The fans erupted, as Coral quickly dropped down into another cover, hooking Sharc's leg and hoping to a couple of his favorite minor deities that this would be enough to finish the match.

One!

TWO!

THR-NO!

Another shoulder had kept Sharc in the match. Coral wasn't too sure of how he was going to do this, but he had just three options available to him. He pulled Sharc to his feet, and went for option one.

CURVEBALL.

The swinging double underhook DDT landed Sharc's skull dead center in the ring, and the young Kleptomaniac quickly went for the cover, knowing full well that the Curveball HAD to be enough to finish the match for him.

One.

TWO.

THREE...NO!

Again, the fans cheered, as Sharc was still in this. Coral was rapidly beginning to believe that something else was going to be needed to put the former PIW Hardcore champion away. And he knew what to do. He stood up and stood in front of Sharc, and the fans exploded in cheers when they knew what this was signifying.

He ran off one set of ropes.

He ran off the second set of ropes.

GOLDEN ELB--DENIED!

DEATH VALLEY DRIVER~!

Sharc had popped up after Coral had passed him by once, and by the time Coral had run back, Sharc simply used Coral's own momentum to pop him up to his shoulders and land the Death Valley Driver on Coral's head. Sharc simply sat next to the fallen Bantam champion and shook out any of his remaining cobwebs. He rationalized that he would need something other than the Death Valley Driver to finish off the Kleptomaniac. He pulled Coral to his feet, then looked at Ben Parker and pointed in a direction. Being an idiot, Parker did, in fact, look in the direction that Sharc pointed in, and that split-second distraction allowed Sharc to his a low blow. Before Ben could turn around and see Avalon clutching his balls, though, Sharc grasped the doubled-over Avalon and hit him with a quick DDT.

Sharc grumbled to himself. He had been trying to work on Coral's back for much of this match, and now would be a good time to act on that. He pulled Coral to the center of the ring, before he applied the one move that would indeed inact on the work Coral's on Coral's back.

SPINEBREAKER!

Coral cried out in pain. He had been in some bad submission holds, like Daniel Phillips and his Royal Treatment, or Jeff Garvin and his Hammer Jammer. This was really bad, though. The fans were behind him, though, as was Allison Lindum, who had maneuvered herself in Coral's field of vision and started slamming her hands onto the mat, in tune to the fans' chants for him.

"AV-A-LON! AV-A-LON! AV-A-LON!"

Coral crawled, as best as he could with a two hundred and forty-five pound man on his back. He tried very desperately to find a way out of this hold, and slowly tried to pull Sharc's hand out of the chinlock. Since it wasn't his dominant hand that was holding the chinlock, Coral somehow managed to pull Sharc's hand from his chin. Before Sharc could react to that, though, Coral used every ounce of upper body strength he had to push up, and slowly crawl to the ropes. He crawled, inch by inch, in the face of simply the sharpshooter portion of the Spinebreaker, to the ropes.

He made it.

Sharc cursed in frustration, while the fans and Allison Lindum cheered positively for Coral making it to the ropes. Sharc was not at all believing this. He pulled Coral from the ropes, and started to go for the Sharc Attack. However, Coral managed to shove Sharc chest-first into the corner. Coral quickly ran up and dropkicked Sharc in the back, keeping him in the corner. Then Coral approached Sharc and mounted him like one would be mounted for a ten punch count. Except in this case, Sharc was facing in the same direction as Avalon. Coral grasped Sharc's hair as if he was about to hit Dazed and Confused from that position, but Sharc caught on and before Coral could get a good grip on his hair, he slipped out from behind and smashed Coral in the back with a forearm.

Sharc climbed up with Coral, before hooking his head from behind. Before the fans could realize what had happened, it had happened.

SECOND ROPE REVERSE DDT!

The fans, once again, chanted "HOLY SHIT!" at this. It was just one of those moves you never saw out of a guy like Sharc. Sharc, somewhat woozy, delirious, and tired after connected with the move, desperately draped an arm over the young Kleptomaniac's chest.

ONE!

TWO!

THRE-FOOT ON THE ROPES!

Sharc suddenly wished that there were no ropes. In frustration, he kicked the ropes. He then grabbed Coral by his long hair, and shoved him into the turnbuckles, before he hit a few hard punches to his forehead, further opening the hardway cut that had been opened up during the brawl in the crowd. Sharc was nearly out of options here, but when he was done punching at Coral like Sharc was a disgruntled customer and Coral was a telemarketer, Sharc grasped Coral's head and again went for the Sharc Attack.

Blocked.

Coral was holding on to the top rope, wanting nothing to do with the Sharc Attack. This caused Sharc to punch Coral in the head twice more, specifically at the wound in his head. Then he went for the Sharc Attack again. However, this time, as Sharc stepped out, Coral went all Sting v. DDP on Sharc and grasped Sharc's head.

DYING BREATH!

A pure desperation move by the Kleptomaniac, because he was in no way able to make the cover on Sharc. Ben Parker finally remembered one of those rules he should've been enforcing, "count to ten when both guys are down". As he counted down both men, both Allison Lindum and Bait were encouraging their respective charges to get up.

At the count of five, Sharc, who was definitely the better off the two, managed to get to his feet. A second behind him was Coral Avalon, who was trying to figure out what to do next. Sharc reared back for another punch, but Coral blocked it and responded with another one of his European uppercuts. Second verse, same as first, as Coral managed to land another European uppercut. Sharc staggered back, and blindly tried a right hand on Coral. However, Coral managed to duck it, and kicked Sharc in the gut, grabbed Sharc's near arm, and put his leg on top of Sharc's head.

LEG LEVER TAKEDOWN!

Quickly, Coral covered Sharc, hoping that this would be enough to defeat him.

ONE!

TWO!

THREE-NO!

Once again, Sharc had kicked out. And the fans cheered this. Coral hesitated and decided that now would be a good time to bust out...

THE SPLIT-LEGGED MOONSAULT!

HITS THE KNEES!

Yes, once again, the wily Sharc had managed to see Coral's offense coming, and brought his knees up. Coral had landed squarely on top of the knees, hurting his ribs in the process. Sharc slowly came around and decided that it was time to finish this match once and for all. He pulled Coral back to his feet and grasped his head from behind.

BLOOD IN THE WATER~!

But wait! Coral had gone with the momentum, and soon had managed to go up and over Sharc's body, landing behind him, and hooking his head in the inverted facelock position. Before Sharc could even react, Coral struck.

RATINGS SPIKE~!

The fans exploded, and Coral weakly crawled on top of Sharc, hoping that THIS would be enough.

ONE!

TWO!

THHRREEEE~!

The fans exploded in cheers again, as the bell rung and "Won't Back Down" started to play again. Coral had not just won, but survived his encounter with Sharc.

Coral pushed himself to a seated position against the corner, while Allison Lindum entered the ring to check on him. Likewise, Bait did the same with Sharc, who was still down. Ben Parker had collected the Bantam title and draped it over Coral's waist. Coral tried to get up, but he needed Allison's help to do so. Coral held his championship into the air as best as he could, but was so out of it that he didn't see Sharc recover until he was right in front of him.

Coral wasn't in much condition to fight back, but Sharc wasn't going for a fight. He was simply hold his hand out for a handshake, and Coral slowly obliged him. When that was done, Sharc simply left with Bait in tow, leaving Coral to wearilly celebrate his win.

Once again proving that he was the champion.

Outcome: Avalon via pinfall
