The Odd Couple
Pressure Point 58
April 28, 2003
Starring: Kayden Paulton & Fiend
He was happy. And even though he was always happy, that didn’t matter. Kayden Paulton marched his way down the backstage hallway, in search for his newest teammate of this night. The one in which he would tag up with against Sharc and Bait.
That person being Fiend.
And as Kayden walked, he was literally ecstatic to have FIEND on his team. This was one of Action’s best new bloods. Paulton couldn’t WAIT to be on FIEND’S side! What an honor it was going to be.
Kayden approached Fiend’s locker room door, and knocked.
“Hey Fiend! It’s me, Kayden!”
“A circus around here...” Fiend muttered to himself from inside the room as he remained seated.
“The rumor is you turn a handle and then push it, that’s how you open a door.” He sarcastically called through the door.
But Paulton, being as polite as he normally was (which was really polite), asked first. “Can I come in Fiend?”
Fiend’s hand came hurtling toward his forehead with a slap. He decided that if he didn’t open the door for Paulton, he probably wouldn’t have a partner for the night due to him being out injured. No partner was probably a better idea, but Kayden might be handy to watch that little wench Sharc.
He walked across the room and opened the door.
“Yes. You can.” He said to the grinning fool before him.
And what a grinning fool. “Fiend!” Kayden said, reaching out and grabbing Fiend for a surprise hug. At first, Fiend didn’t know what hit him... but quickly pushed off Paulton’s shoulders and walked back to his chair.
“We have a Match tonight Fiend!” Paulton said with a smile. “I just thought I’d come here and say what an honor it will be being your partner tonight!”
Fiend, still a little rattled by the hug still just stared up at his partner for this evening. He had some advice to give him.
“Though you did startle me with you having some skill and all two weeks ago, I just want you to know something...” He paused.
Kayden came a little closer, thinking that Fiend was gonna give him some wise advice that had been passed on from generation to generation.
“... You get in my way and I hurt you, too.”
There was a pause.
A long pause.
Some of the people thought Paulton was thinking about what Fiend had said, but really, that wasn’t true at all. Paulton understood what Fiend had said the second he said it. Kayden didn’t want to get in Fiend’s way. Fiend was a good wrestler, and could more than likely carry the Match on his own. Instead, all Paulton was thinking about, was how cool Fiend’s gold tooth was... and also how to thank him for the advise he was just given.
Kayden smiled. “Fiend, you got it buddy.”
Fiend smiled. This guy knew which way was up, possibly, and liked the fact that he was in some way coherent. But the truth was he wanted to get at Sharc and tear him a new one.
“I tell ya what, if the girl comes in, I tag you, huh?” Fiend suggested to Kayden.
Paulton nodded. “Wicked! Bait is a great wrestler and that will be an awesome test for me!” The ‘Passive-Aggressive’ laughed. “I hope I can take her.”
“I bet you do, you sick-0.” Fiend replied.
Fiend stood up, grabbing Paulton by the elbow and leading him back toward the door. He opened it, and began to help Kayden through.
“Now, Kayden, I’ve got to drink some water so I’d like to be left alone now. How about I’ll see you out there, huh?” Fiend suggested.
Paulton gave him the thumbs-up.
“OKAY!”
Fiend thanked God that Paulton used a “k” and not a “t” and began to shut the door. He raised his eyebrows in that dismissive leave-me-the-fuck-alone way, and went back to his locker room chair.
The scene stayed with Paulton, though, as he stood there... a smile from ear to ear on his face.
“I really, really like that guy.”
